* Separation of management functions of Cisco IOS (control plane) from forwarding of packets (data plane); improves performance and reliability
\nbecause of isolation<\/p>\n

* Allows use of multicore CPUs<\/p>\n

* Platform abstraction<\/p>\n

* Linux architecture provides for improved service (application) integration
\n– Common Management Enabling Technology (COMET)<\/p>\n

* Forwarding and Feature Manager (FFM) – Control plane<\/p>\n

\nshow processes memory (doc used “processes” instead of “process”; to check memory usage of IOSd)
\nshow platform software status control-processor brief (to check memory usage on IOS XE)
\nmonitor platform software process {fp|rp} {active|standby}
\n– then hit Shift+M
\nshow platform hardware qfp active infrastructure exmem statistics (to check memory usage of the QuantumFlow Processor (QFP))<\/p>\n
