STP Fast Convergence Features<\/span><\/p>\n

1.  Portfast<\/span><\/p>\n

 – Bypasses the listening and learning states on edge ports<\/p>\n

 – Used for end devices<\/p>\n

 – Global configuration<\/p>\n

     -> Applied to all non-trunking ports<\/p>\n

SW1(config)#  spanning-tree portfast default<\/span><\/p>\n

 – Interface configuration<\/p>\n

SW1(config)# int fa0\/1<\/span><\/p>\n

 spanning-tree portfast<\/span><\/p>\n

 – On trunk port<\/p>\n

     -> Should be used on trunk ports connected to<\/p>\n

          -> Routers<\/p>\n

          -> Servers<\/p>\n

SW1(config)# int fa0\/1<\/span><\/p>\n

 spanning-tree portfast trunk<\/span><\/p>\n

2.  Uplinkfast<\/span><\/p>\n

 – Bypasses listening and learning states<\/p>\n

     -> Enables blocked port immediately<\/p>\n

 – Used for direct link failurees<\/p>\n

 – Sends dummy packets for all connected end devices<\/p>\n

     -> Destined for STP multicast address<\/p>\n

 – Max-update-rate<\/p>\n

     -> Default is 150 packets per second<\/p>\n

 – Global configuration<\/p>\n

SW1(config)# spanning-tree uplinkfast [max-update-rate <pps>]<\/span><\/p>\n

3.  Backbonefast<\/span><\/p>\n

 – To avoid max-age-timer incase of indirect link failure<\/p>\n

 – Sends Root Link Query (RLQ) out blocking port<\/p>\n

     -> Sent as soon as an inferior BPDU is received<\/p>\n

 – When RLQ acknowledgement is received, listening \/ learning procedure starts<\/p>\n

 – Global configuration<\/p>\n

SW1(config)# spanning-tree backbonefast<\/span><\/p>\n

show spanning-tree sum<\/span><\/p>\n

 – Will list all of the STP features that are enabled<\/p>\n

show spanning-tree int <int> detail<\/span><\/p>\n

 – Detailed information<\/p>\n
